Defining Bollywood's Leadership Against Malnutrition

Guinness Book World Dance Record Attempt

It's official! On May, 11 2010, IBTU and Bollywood For A Cause were given permission to pursue our record attempt to bring awareness to the global challenge of malnutrition faced in India. Below are the details we've been working to establish with the Guinness Book of World Records. This campaign is a start in bringing a localized community perspective to our cause, and through the spirit of competition, building natural awareness when others try to beat the record we've established. This page becomes a log of our progress.

Who is attempting this?

Austin, TX based organizations It's Bigger Than You (IBTU) and 'Bollywood For A Cause' is attempting to create a world record for the Largest Bollywood dance. IBTU is a social movement who is interested in changing minds in how we interact with and create solutions for global nutrition issues, more specifically global malnutrition. It's Bigger Than You's vision is to redefine the Bollywood industry as a leader in the fight against global malnutrition. By harnessing the media impact of this global phenomenon, and focus its fun, attractive and positive aspects toward global challenges in malnutrition, we hope to change minds, inspire action and create solutions for issues much bigger than us.

How will they do it?

Austin, TX is unique in its ability to bring together community for a purpose. Austin proved this when it was was awarded "Most People Dancing to Thriller in One Location" for Michael Jackson's tribute "Thrill the World" in 2008. IBTU's vision for the Bollywood Dance Game is to add what made "Thrill the World" fun for Austin, and make it successful for challenges much bigger. Upon approval from the Guinness Book, we would like to initiate a campaign similar to what made Austin successful in it's "Thrill the World" campaign. Our campaign will be a strategic build of relationships with community groups, civic organizations, schools, local businesses and vendors, and city leaders. Each group will be actively engaged to not only participate in re-occurring rehearsals based on a specific Bollywood Dance sequence, but also encouraged to keep the "story" and participation fun, lively and community oriented. We feel that this approach gives Austin, TX an opportunity to vest interest in the build of this World Record, also.

How is this measured? What is the record based on?

The world record is based solely of the number of people that successfully complete the Bollywood Dance sequence at a certain date, time and location. The proposed date is March 30th 2011, from 12pm - 1pm, at a location that is still to be determined.

Why are you doing this?

IBTU is focused on seizing a "window of opportunity" to assist existing organizations, such as the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS), who are actively working to improve malnutrition conditions in India. We want to heighten industry awareness towards the youngest children in the poorest states that are still underserved by ICDS programs. Through funds raised, and awareness created for the ICDS, IBTU and 'Bollywood For A Cause' create a heightened sense of urgency within the Bollywood Industry. Our goal is that, through the leadership of this media giant, that minds can be changed towards our interaction with and solutions provided for these challenges.
